07.25.08 | Hollinden Project Complete
The commission project with Dave Hollinden has finished. The end result, a brilliant new work for percussion duo entitled "Alchemy." This new contribution to percussion art music shows a different side to Hollinden's writing. The work features two medium set-ups consisting of diverse, but small, instruments. The 25 minutes of music focuses on both unison figures and difficult polyrhythmic figures including two composed solos (one for each performer).

01.07.07 | QPD Performs with Hartford Symphony Orchestra
On February 10, QPD will perform at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. QPD will perform Ravel's "Alborada del Gracioso" arranged for marimba duo on a concert entitled "Connecticut Collegiate All Stars." QPD was personally selected by Maestro Edward Cumming to perform on this subscription pops concert.

11.04.06 | Simsbury Chamber Music Festival
QPD will be performing on the Simsbury Chamber Music Festival. This concert series features one performing group each Tuesday in the month of may. Date TBA.


11.04.06 | CD Release
We will be releasing a CD featuring new works commissioned by the duo including compositions by Alejandro Vinao, David Macbride, Ben Wahlund, and others. Tentative date of completion is March 2007.


07.01.06 | Reliquary of Labor
QPD is involved in an exciting collaboration with composer Ken Steen, cellist Jeff Krieger, and media-artist Gene Gort. The project is a 60-minute work entitled “Reliquary of Labor” which was commissioned to commemorate the opening of the New Britain Museum of American Art. “Reliquary of Labor”
is a parallel-media work-in-progress that incorporates the performing forces of electronic cello, percussion ensemble, multi-channel computer generated and manipulated sound, multi-channel video and a variety of web-based components. Visit the website for more information.

QPD will be on tour in Atlantic Canada this March, 2007 with percussionist/composer Ken Shorley.

06.03.06 | Alejandro Vinao Commission
QPD is currently involved in a group commission for a marimba/vibraphone duo entitled "Arabesco Infinito" by Argentinean composer Alejandro Vinao. The work will be finished in November and includes over 25 artists in the project.


05.15.06 | David Macbride Commission
Klung by David Macbride was commissioned by QPD and percussionist Bill Solomon for a fall '06 tour featuring new percussion works. This trio is scored for 3 non-traditional keyboard instruments, 3 temple bells, and 3 ringing metals.


03.08.06 | Stuart Smith Commission
Winter Taps by Stuart Saunders Smith (the QPD commission) is finished and scored for 2 percussionists each with a vibraphone and a pair of crotales. Each performer also recites text throughout the work. The text was written by percussionist Sylvia Smith. A workshop/coaching with Stuart Smith and Sylvia Smith is arranged for the near future. Winter Taps will be premiered in 2007


02.20.06 | HoneyRock CD
QPD is currently working on a CD project for HoneyRock publications.
The CD will include selected duo works published by HoneyRock.
